Mini Fashion

So, it has been quite quiet over here for a long time. Sorry about that. This past summer I got a promotion at work, so that meant putting Tory in preschool and working long days, just like everyone else with a full time job. Then, something very, very exciting happened!!! Joey got a new job in Texas so that meant that we got to move back home. Bye bye Baton Rouge, you won't be missed. At all. So I have spent August, September and October house hunting, traveling back and forth between Louisiana and Texas, packing and unpacking. Also, Tory had her third birthday last week so I had a birthday party to put together on top of everything else!!!! So that explains why this blog has been quite neglected lately. Again, sorry about that. 

Once Joey and I got settled into our new home in Houston, I put Tory into a new preschool here and she is quite the little diva. My mom took her to Nordstrom to get some new, cool school clothes!! Tory only goes three days a week. The point is to give me a break during the week and she actually wants to go to preschool. She loves socializing and playing with other kids. I am just working on the weekends for now. And during those three days a week she is at preschool, I can get my ducks all in a row (and take a nap). It is amazing how fast kids grow out of their clothes!! I buy so much for her every season and I just took her shopping and she already grew out of her shoes, pants and tops!!! So thank goodness my mom told me she'd help me out and get her some new things for the Fall and Winter seasons!! 

Nordstrom kids has the cutest things right now!! I LOVE the kids line, Mini Boden!! Adorable!! I love quirky and fun and Mini Boden is both of those!! I think when it gets a little colder, I'm going to get her some of their winter coats. Another positive things about being back in Texas is that there is actually a Nordstroms here!! Yeah!! I think there was a Saks in New Orleans but other than that, there isn't much in Louisiana when it comes to fashion (or high fashion). Although, there were some really cute boutiques in Baton Rouge that I loved shopping at (Rodeo, Head over Heels, NK Boutique). 

One specific item that I am obsessed with right now are Dr. Marten boots for toddlers!!! I think I put them on her almost every time she goes to preschool. I got her a pink pair and floral pair about 6 months ago, but she has already grown out of them!! So we're having fun pairing the purple color with her Mini Boden and other cute clothes my mom got her. I am also obsessed with converse for babies and toddlers!! How cute are those purple ones from above? Tory's cousin, Ragan, actually got her those for her birthday! Another favorite spot to pick up some cute clothes for the kiddo is Baby Gap!! Baby Gap understands my love for hats and all things cute!! I cannot wait until the Kate Spade line for Baby Gap launches on the 30th!!!

The Backpack Purse

I remember being in kindergarten or it had to of been first grade? And the whole "mini backpack" / purse "thing" was in! I wanted one so, so, so bad!! This was in the early 90s and I vividly remember waking up that Christmas morning and finding a mini backpack under the Christmas tree. I think I had the biggest smile on my face. We, my four other siblings and I, also got a trampoline that year and I remember going outside and jumping on that thing all day with my cool, new purse!

And now all these years later, the backpack purse is back! If I didn't have a kid, I would still be obsessed with this new style but I think that because I have a child, I am drawn more to this bag. I just see a purse that is so convenient, accessible, hands-free and fashionable. It is everything that I want in a bag. When I am out with Tory, I need my hands available to either hold her, get her out of something aka everything and free to grab whatever it is that I am out shopping for. Also, now that Tory is older, I don't need to bring a huge diaper bag with me everywhere. It is nice. All I need is two diapers and a thin container of wipes to put in my purse. 

These backpack purses are also great for traveling. I think that would be the main selling point for me if I didn't have a child. It would be a great carry on and even a great bag for those who are still in school. I never carried a ton of books with me to my classes. I always had one binder for all my classes. Having books where you can individually take out the pages was really convenient because then I could take out Chapter 1 and put it in my binder and not have to bring the entire, huge book with me to class. I didn't need a big backpack or tote either. So I think one of these backpack purses would be perfect for students. You can bring your school supplies and have your personal items all in one bag that is both chic and functional.

Tuxedo Nails

I have been wearing a lot of B&W lately, it was all I wore while I was in New York and Colorado over the holidays, so I've been painting my nails to match. I've been painting them just a "simple" black by Essie and then I had them professionally done right before I left for New York. They were black with a white, half moon:

Then, the day after I got home from my trip to Colorado, I had my girl, Serena, work her magic again and paint tiny, tuxedos on my nails. I think they are pretty, darn cute. The bows were pretty hard to do, especially since my nails are so short!! Thank you Serena, I appreciate your hard work & talent. I've been looking into doing white with black polka dots next, but I don't know where to go to here in Baton Rouge!? I've heard Avatar is good, but if my nails are ever professionally done, I get them done while I'm visiting my family back in Austin. I usually paint my nails myself at home. When I say usually, I mean pretty much for the most part. I used to get my nails done all the time, now it rarely happens. No complaints, it saves me money.
